Several seniors meet at the center, 401 N Bell Ave., once a week to participate in a quilting class, executive director Kate Joyce said.

The women make the quilts for recreation and to donate to charity, but a highlight of the quilting session is the weekly conversations participants can take part in, Joyce said.

"The group of ladies are very close,” she said. "Some of them have been quilting here for several years.”

Any senior is invited to the sessions, from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursdays.

The group also makes stuffed animals, and donates them to patients at Hospice by Loving Care, a center where terminally ill patients receive care.
