Shawnee voters head to the polls Tuesday for controversial tax election

SHAWNEE — Voters in Shawnee will decide Tuesday on sales and property tax increases to fund about $50 million in city projects, including a $19 million sports park.

City commissioners in December called the Valentine's Day election for a half-cent sales tax and property tax increase to fund several projects, including street improvements, public safety upgrades and programs for economic development.
