ROME (AP) — Roma has announced a preliminary deal for Sheik Adnan Adel Aref al Qaddumi al Shtewi to enter its ownership group.

In 2011, a group of four Boston executives closed a deal to become the first foreign majority owners of a Serie A club, but Roma continues to seek more funding which could aid its plan to build a new stadium.

Al Qaddumi is believed to be of Qatari heritage although the Gazzetta dello Sport reports that he has been a resident in Italy for 25 years.

Roma says in a statement that the deal allows Al Qaddumi to enter "directly or indirectly in the company that controls NEEP Roma Holding SpA."

Financial details were not disclosed.

Last year, Boston Celtics minority owner James Pallotta replaced Thomas DiBenedetto as Roma president.
