A man walked into the Chase Bank at 301 N Midwest Blvd. about 3:15 p.m. and demanded money, Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said. The man then jumped over the counter and grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash.

The man fired several shots in the bank before running out, Clabes said. He was last seen running north from the scene. No injuries were reported.

After the robbery, police notified officials in the Midwest City-Del City School District, who placed Monroney Junior High School and Ridgecrest Elementary School on lockdown.

Clabes described the gunman as a white male in his 20s with light, shoulder-length hair. He was wearing a ball cap, a light-colored long-sleeve shirt, jeans and tennis shoes.

The FBI is investigating the robbery and Oklahoma City police are assisting in the search for the gunman, Clabes said.

People fear change. Those changes would create a lot of panic, especially with older people. I would think most would want a person/person interaction especially when dealing with their money. I do, however, agree with a bulletproof trap.

I often wonder why more banks don't convert to the hardened systems that many use. First all banks should have bulletproof mantraps at the entrances. Second, they should use the newest bank model where there is no actual teller window. There are stations that are nothing less than ATM's with a computer terminal. I've yet to hear of one of them being robbed.
