Showers, thunderstorms in Oklahoma forecast

Showers and thunderstorms are in Oklahoma's weekend forecast.

The National Weather Service said a weak frontal boundary extended across west central portions of Oklahoma Saturday morning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely Saturday afternoon and evening for portions of eastern, central and southern Oklahoma.

Isolated showers are likely on Sunday, but high pressure will build into the region and prevail through the rest of the holiday weekend. This will result in dry weather conditions for Labor Day.

By early next week, the focus will shift to the Gulf of Mexico and the eventual track of Hurricane Gustav. The system is forecast to make landfall somewhere along the Gulf Coast between Texas and the Florida Panhandle. Where this system makes landfall will determine how much of an effect it has on the weather in Oklahoma.

Forecasters said another cold front is likely to enter the state on Friday of Saturday, with substantially cooler weather likely.

Skies will be partly cloudy tonight with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows will be in the 60s and 70s.

Sunday will be mostly sunny with a chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the upper 80s to mid 90s.

Skies will be partly cloudy on Labor Day with highs in the 80s and 90s with lows in the mid 60s to lower 70s.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely. Highs will be in the 80s and 90s with lows in the lower 60s to lower 70s.

Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. temperatures will be cooler with highs in the 80s and lows in the 50s and 60s.
