They have construction crews crawling all over them.
Five schools, including both Moore and Westmoore high schools, are undergoing work on additions or improvements, school officials said.
Jim Day, the district's director of operations, said the construction projects all have one purpose — to give teachers and students more space.
Moore High School is undergoing one of the largest construction projects. Crews are building a new $2.2 million field house to house the school's football, track and soccer facilities, Day said. The school also is set to receive a 40,000-square-foot addition to house a new cafeteria, commons area and administrative offices.
The new facilities are being constructed so the school will be ready for upcoming changes, Day said. Starting next school year, ninth-graders will attend class at the district's high schools.
Westmoore High School also will receive a new field house. The 5,000-square-foot building will house offices, locker rooms for the school's baseball and softball teams, and additional storage space. Day said the new facility will also be home to a batting cage.
Construction crews are also busy at Bryant, Fisher and Kelley elementary schools. All of the schools are set to receive classroom additions.
Kelley will receive four classrooms, Bryant will get five and Fisher will have six.
Day said these schools are receiving the additions because they are in areas where the district has grown the fastest. Day said the new classrooms will help these schools keep up with growth for at least three years.
All of the projects are being funded by bond funds or Maps for Kids funds, officials said.
Day said the projects are set to be complete by Aug. 1, which is the day district officials expect Southmoore High School to be ready.
