WACO, Texas (AP) — Odyssey Sims was recognized before the game for becoming Baylor's career leader for 3-pointers.
Sims then went out and made six more 3-pointers while scoring 28 points, and the senior All-America guard stayed undefeated at home in her career as the No. 7 Lady Bears led throughout in an 80-46 victory over TCU on Saturday night.
Baylor (14-1, 4-0 Big 12) has won a national-best 69 consecutive home games since Sims arrived. The latest was just the kind of performance coach Kim Mulkey hoped for before that streak gets a big test Monday night against top-ranked Connecticut (17-0).
"In one area specifically, and that would be resting players. I think Odyssey got the most, but just get them off the floor and get everybody some minutes, but not too many," Mulkey said. "It's a quick turnaround, and we understand who we play Monday. We know what it feels like to be No. 1 in the country and want to knock people off."
Sims played only 30 minutes and was 11-of-16 shooting, including 6-of-10 on 3-pointers for the second game in a row. She had a career-high 48 points Wednesday night at West Virginia, when she took over the record for 3-pointers.
"That wasn't my intention," Sims said with a smile about another game with six 3-pointers.
"Odyssey is playing so well. Here's a player that's pushing for a lot of special things in her senior year, and what I see is a team that has a lot of offensive firepower, even though they lost so much," said TCU coach Jeff Mittie, whose oldest daughter played AAU basketball with Sims, who also attended the coach's shooting camp as a young kid.
Sune Agbuke had 15 points for Baylor while freshman Nina Davis had 11 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Imani Wright also had 11 points.
Sims had two 3-pointers as the Lady Bears scored the game's first 14 points in just over 3 minutes.
Mittie called his second timeout already after Sims' second 3-pointer, when the Horned Frogs (11-5, 2-2) had taken only two shots. They finally scored when Natalie Ventress made a short jumper 3 ½ minutes into the game.
