But that doesn’t mean he plans to stop saying "Boomer.”

Sims has come under fire since shouting "Boomer” 11 times from the stage of the Nokia Theater after it was announced OU quarterback Sam Bradford was this year’s Heisman winner.

"I hear I’ve been getting some bad press, that I say ‘Boomer Sooner’ too much,” Sims said during Monday’s black-tie Heisman award ceremony at the New York Hilton before leading the event’s public benefit auction. "In no way did I mean to upstage Sam’s night. I love Oklahoma so much, and I try to be a spokesman for the university. I will never, ever stop saying ‘Boomer.’

"But I apologize to the Bradford family and the Heisman Trust if I crossed a boundary. Sam’s dad, Kent, was a teammate of mine and was part of my Heisman season. That’s why I was so happy for Sam.”

Later, Heisman Trust member Sanford Wurmfeld, who presented the Heisman Trophy to Bradford on Saturday, came to Sims’ defense.

"If someone told Billy that the Heisman Trust was unhappy with him, that is far from the case,” Wurmfeld said.

That this is even a story shows how wrong Sims was. Bradford and Sims are both class acts. Sam HIGH class, Billy low class. 4 of 5 Heisman winners from OU represent the State and University with dignity, only one fails. Could be the only one falling short is the only one not from the Great State of Oklahoma.

If he did, everyone on this post would be saying what an idiot. Everyone would be calling him all kinds of names.

Please.
I waited for Billy to shout "Boomer" (like he did when Jason won).
And I shouted "Sooner" back at the TV screen.

DeAnn, Roseville - Dec 17, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Oh geez... here we go again.

Krystal: Pay attention. YES, osu fans DO hope OU will lose. It's all they care about. It's their whole season basically. Not how well the Cowboys will do, but watching OU games and rooting for the other teams just to beat the Sooners! Especially if the cowboys are able to beat them. It's a fact. Your OWN player admitted it on national television on ESPN gameday. He stated that fans approach him and say they don't care about winning any other game, just bedlam. If you guys were really fans of your own team and just cared about them, you wouldn't be reading stories about OU and blogging on message boards related to them.
Also, get your facts straight. OU can and has won bowl games. In the last twenty years, they have played in 13 bowl games. They have won 7 of those. Before you start in on the '7 out of 13 is embarassing and not very good crap', go figure out how many bowl games or championships your own team has even played for, how many Heisman trophies have been won, and how many times your stadium is a sell-out. Then get back to us.
Tanya, Oklahoma City - Dec 17, 2008 at 1:24 pm
I couldn't believe it when I kept hearing that idiot sound over and over and over...Sam deserves better. But, at high school graduations all over Oklahoma folks shout out stupid things, hang their feet over the balconies, shoeless, and worse. Maybe that says something.

If Sam, the Heisman folks and Kent didn't care about Billy yelling, you shouldn't either. What's more embarrassing, a guy taking pride in his University, or a so called fan that's ashamed to say they're a Sooner in public?

And yes, the spelling errors are on purpose. I would like to see how many people actually recognize them. If you can count correctly there should be 11 errors. Just as many as Billy made at the Athletic Club on Saturday.
Christopher, Stillwater - Dec 16, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Okay, so does it not making anyone else just kind of scratch their head when their is a comment about I don't judge Billy by his personal life but what he did on the field.

If my calculations are correct then OJ Simpson would be God. Charles Thompson is the equavilent to Ghandi. And Adam(PacMan)Jones is who my son prays to every night.

Seriously people, what Billy did was wrong. The Heisman Presentation is organized to display class and excellence. By yelling Boomer repeatedly is not classy. I was watching the presentation and really thought that some idiot was in the back of the room yelling it. Little did I know it was one of the OU Greats.

As for his personal life. It is a big deal. For single mothers that have dead beat ex's they would really want their child to be like him. I have no problem with inviting him to the presentation but I can promise you that Jason White would not have made himself look like a fool. I hope everyone learns a lesson from this. Don't speak in public if you couldn't pass freshman English...

I enjoy reading the posts from the Aggie fans. I understand that Saturday night Barry Sanders was watching his son play in the State Championship game for Heritage Hall. But what about the previous years? I don't remember him being at the Heisman awards. It really doesn't make any difference, but at least Sims shows up and supports Oklahoma. I guess he shows more loyalty than Sanders. Seems like the Heisman meant more to him than it did Sanders. But that is OK by me, I will support Sanders also because he represented Oklahoma....... All of the ill posts about Sims just shows O State fans are not ready to be in the upper crust of big time football, and total jealousy of OU...... If O State supported the other teams in the state it would be easy to support them. Most OSU fans would rather copy OU's achievements and success than create their own. OSU has been talking about playing a game in Dallas, just like OU. OSU need to find their own identity and not copy OU because of their jealousy........BOOMER!!!!!!!

I personally cringed a little bit Billy showed his school spirit. After all, this was stuffed shirt affair in the big city. But after further reflection, and with Heisman trust commenting that they did not have an issue with it, I'm with Billy. It seems to me that the only ones embarrassed by the boisterousness, was ESPN and Daily Oklahoman. The only group that has anything to say if it was inappropriate or not, is the ones who host the affair, the Heisman trust. And if they back Billy, then so do I.
Chris, Edmond - Dec 16, 2008 at 7:40 pm
Now, I hope that this finally puts this petty little issue to rest! Now let's get on with the business of trying to positively will our Sooners to a national title victory. Especially, now with Demarco Murray out of the game. I guess this means that Mossis will have to lead them to the Promised Land.

A Gooner is a sooner fan from the trailer park of life. A bandwagon fan who only knows two words, boomer and sooner, and has two cartons of cigarettes on top of the fridge and a case of Old Milwaukee in the fridge, but can't afford to pay the electric bill. One who badmouths everything not red, and is seen from time to time on local news reports offering opinions on the crimes in their neighborhood while sporting the faded ou hat, Tee shirt, or hoodie. They are the first to jump ship when ou loses and blames everything from the refs to the phase of the moon as to the cause. Gooners are also known as mouth breathers and bottom feeders. Sims supporters will be whining and jumping off the gooner bandwagon in droves when Florida starts chanting "Over Rated" as Stoops goes down losing another BCS Bowl Game.

Anytime you attend a formal event and start hollering from the stage when it isn't your moment in the spotlight is just plain rude, no matter who you are. It's sad to read personal attacks on those that offer an opinion on the article and event, and shows just how mean spirited some are. On the other hand, it's hilarious to see how stupid some can be with those attacks, as it really gets under their skin to have someone point out the truth. When you can't offer a rebuttal with facts, just start name calling and make personal attacks to avoid the subject. Sims is an embarrassment and if you can't handle the truth of that, too bad, so sad, I'm glad, you're mad. Poor sooners.....

Randy, Moore - Dec 16, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Krystal,

About as stupid as "All Sooners (sorry, I meant "Gooners") are trailer park trash.

I was simply making the point that the "All Sooners are (insert derogatory comment here)" argument is nothing more than the sour grapes rant of orange-bleeding sour pusses.

By the way. Good call on trying to make fun of someone for "not having better to do" when you're here, just the same, reading and posting along with the rest of us.

Posters like you never cease to amaze.....

I don't mind Billy shouting Boomer (I've done it in airports, weddings, etc., with other Sooner fans), but 11 times might have been a little much, especially when Sam was hugging his parents and couldn't respond. I agree with whoever it was that said they liked the first 2 or 3 "Boomers", but then it got stale when it was actually interrupting the proceedings. Billy kind of made a bit of a fool of himself, but it was not the major embarrassment that some of you on here seem to think. Nor was it the wonderful thing that others seem to think. But he did apologize for the minor disruption, and that should be the end of it. BTW, the actual last words of the national anthem are "play ball" !!

I have to say this is more than just an ESPN thing. You can really thank our so called sports talk radio station WWLS The Sports Animal for some of this. I loved seeing and hearing Jason White and Sims going back and forth when he won his trophy and all was cool. If anyone should be getting called out should be the rest of the Sooner family that was up on that stage not giving any back with Sims. That is one of the greatest to see. Someone who truely loves the school he went to college at and will do that regardless of when or where they are at is great. Maybe instead of Billy Sims apologizing maybe the rest of the OU football players and fans that where in that room and up on that stage with him should be the ones saying sorry. Sorry they don't love their school as much as he does. Sorrry they don't get that excited to see a member of the Sooner family join the greatest club in football. Sorry they can't say Boomer Sooner.

I didn't graduate from OU, but happen to own two business and have been self-employed for over 20 years. I have a very nice home and probably make more in a week than you make in a year. I loved Billy's enthusiasm was it done in poor taste yea maybe. Truthfully all it did was tick off the people that we're already upset about Bradford winning. My daughter is a student at OU so you're previous statements are typical for OSU alumni, I assume that you graduated from there? Have you ever wondered why so many people support OU that didn't graduate or go to school there? It's because they win and don't always come up short like OSU. The OSU grads have to show support for their school because no one else will, they have to justify their decision.

Phillip, if you look up moron in the dictionary, your picture would be right next to it. Simms had his career ended early. Most people believe he would have been a Hall of Fame running back had it not happened.

Sanders is probably the best running back in NFL history, but I won't forget to mention that as good as he was, he still never beat the Sooners. Get over yourself and your Cowboy bias. Even Cowboy fans would disavow you for moronic statements like that, and most of Oklahoma would beat you to within an inch of your life if you said that in public.

It doesn't surprise me that some Sooner fans are upset with Billy. I've said BOOMER to OU fans in Dallas before the Texas game and in return received some looks of sheer embarassment and shock. If some OU fans won't respond to "BOOMER SOONER" on game day in Dallas, they sure aren't going to support Billy saying it on the Heisman stage. It's too bad some of the younger Sooner fans have an inferiority complex that makes them think they have to disown every bit of this State's heritage, every OU legend that dares yell out in pride for the University, and any booster that doesn't fit a hip, trendy, "progressive" thinking mold some of these younger fans would like to portray.

SoonerBornSoonerBred, just an fyi before you go bashing Sanders... Barry Sanders' son, Barry Sanders Jr., was leading his high school, Heritage Hall, to victory in the State Championship football game at the very moment Sam Bradford was receiving the Heisman Trophy. It would appear to even the untrained eye (not the totally fool-blind such as yourself) that Sanders' priorities are TOTALLY on point. Family first. What an idiot you are. As an OSU alum I thought the first two or three "Boomers" were fine and appropriate for the moment. Numbers 4 thru 11 did get old... Congrats to Sam on a VERY well-deserved honor.

craig, Oklahoma city - Dec 16, 2008 at 12:00 pm
Let's get to the basics. The point whether he would have been yelling "Go Gator", or "Boomer" as he was is that there is a time and place for everything and that was neither. The second comment made back a while ago was the Sooner fans yelling "Sooners" at the end of a national anthem. It might be tradition, it might be accepted, but it probably is not in the greatest taste. If a foreigner started changing our national anthem, most of us would be up in arms. Now I am not trying to sound stiff, or to up tight, I just feel that at times you represent the state, our people, and our pride, and with outbursts and sayings such as these, it brings a bit of a tarnish to an image that the state as a whole is trying to show.

There is a time and place for everything. Whether you agree or not, the presentation ceremony is a stuffy affair. If you want a more rowdy celebration, put one on. Just don't go to someone else's house and tell them you think that they are too stuffy and you want jazz things up. I don't have any opinion on Billy as a person, I just think he should use a little judgement. After all, shouldn't this be about Sam?

For you aggies and Phil trying to bash everything OU, I remind you that only one OSU player has won the Heisman. And even Barry Sanders fathered a child out of wedlock. So don't give me this paying child support junk. I can tell you this, if Billy still has child support to pay, he is paying it or else he would be back in jail. Phil I'd like you to back up your statements with facts? Do you know how many kids he has? What are his payments? Is he paid up? You take the easy way out to slam him, but you don't rely on any evidence except for the simple fact you knew he was in trouble at one time. I think we have to give the man credit for not giving up on himself. He's started the barbecue business to make money I'm sure, but he's got every right to be proud of his OU ties because OU gave him the opportunity to make a name for himself -- a name he now uses to sell the barbecue. So lay off. Everyone has their faults in this life. BOOMER!!!

First of all, to the fans that think they represent OU because your conservative in how you express you appreciation for your Alma Mater, let's keep in mind that this was a Heisman Award winner expressing his gratitude how he saw fit. He has earned the right as a member of this elite fraternity to be himself. Stop expecting everyone to be as prude and conservative as yourselves. If the man was emotionally charged standing on a stage with Heisman trophy winners representing their fellow institutions and wanted to rub it in their face a little bit, why should that be viewed as a bad thing. Last, have you stopped to think that Mr. Simms actions might have taken some of the pressure of off Sam by getting him fired up with the Boomer Sooner chant. Let's stop being son predictable every time someone shows a real passion for the University they contributed to and to this day still embraces with love and passion.

And Patrick from Edmond,

Let's not start again with the "typical" comments. You never get anywhere with them.

Seriously??? How lame are you?
Grant, Edmond - Dec 16, 2008 at 11:33 am
Greg,

You're a joke. You hate OU because you're full of sour grapes and you bleed orange. Your blanket statements about "many trailer park trash" and OU as "among the most hated programs in college sports" are absolutely the moronic rantings of a bitter fan of one of OU's rivals.

You're kind are a dime a dozen. Why don't you drive through my neighborhood, or that of many of my closest friends. Some graduated from college, and some didn't. Some went to OU and some didn't. But I think, when you see the fine home they've created for themselves, complete with an OU banner, you might change your tune about OU fans. (Hey, one of them actually did live in a trailer for 3 years. She's a lawyer now, with a degree from OU law school. How's your education look Greg?)

Oh, who am I kidding. You'll never change your tune. You'll stay bitter and argumentative... the perfect example of the "OSU is OU's obnoxious little brother" mentality.

Yes, you are right. Some things will never change.

Grow up. Look at the scoreboard from time to time. Accept your place in history vs. OU, and root for your team to change it. Heck, storm the field when you win if you want.

But save the comments. You only perpetuate your own sad stereotype when you drop tired, whiny, bitter comments.

Jack in Wagoner, I am the same age as Billy. I was in his store a couple of years ago on campus corner and I purchased his jersey.

I was walking out with it when he approached me and asked if I wanted the jersey signed. I said, "Fo shizzle, my nizzle"!!
He then went over and got me an autographed pic.

But, Heck, Mike Tyson gets a bad rap too. When we won the last NC in Miami in 2001, My son ran into Tyson in South Beach after the game. Tyson actually called me and said hello. He is friends with Mookie Blalock and Stacy King. I have a big pic of my Son and Tyson doing a soul shake. Don't we have better things to gripe about?

There are indeed two kinds of OU fans. The few who actually graduated from the institution and the many trailer park trash who just root for OU in football because of their tradition. The former are embarassed by Sims action, while the latter probably were right along with Billy yelling "Boomer" and "Sooner". Some things will never change and this is why OU remains among the most hated programs in college sports today.

Two years ago Christmas I saw Billy Sims in a mall in Tulsa selling his autograph on helmets, shirts, hats, etc. My wife and I were there to have our two little girls picture taken with santa claus. I explained to Billy that I really couldn't afford to buy anything but I asked him if he would consider having his picture taken with my two little girls. Billy scooped up my two little girls and loved on them just like I would have. He even took pictures with me and my wife. He later used my cel phone and called two of my brothers and each time the first word out of his mouth was "Boomer!" My brothers knew who it was but they couldn't believe it, that an icon like Billy Sims was actually calling and holding a conversation with them. I and my family will never forget that night. So you more than perfect, never accomplished anything in your life, hypocrits out there keep slinging your crap in which ever direction it is accepted. Billy Sims is alright in my book. Why don't we ask Billy Sims, if he gives a sh*t what you fair whether fans think! 80% of you probly didn't even attend OU like he did and went to some other school. Some of the ppl on here are OSU fans just here to take jabs at one of the all time greats of OU. There are fans like that for every team and if you women can't handle it then don't go to college football games. Or maybe your man had better step in and take care of it. If he doesn't, then maybe you don't have much of a man! Find another one! BOOMER BILLY BOOMER!!!!

Billy did the right thing apologizing. No, its not a crime to yell "Boomer", yes, we get that Billy was just excited, and, yes, yelling "Boomer" repeatedly does cross a tastefulness line, but Billy will always hold the record for largest afro on a Heisman winner, a record that will NEVER be broken. Boomer!

Just another set of crying comments about the BIG man holding the little man down. How many Heisman player's are in stoolwater? National Championships? Win/Loss record for the Bedlam series? I'm one of those quiet fans that likes to sit and watch the game, but I don't care if someone wants to stand up--I work hard all week and want to sit on my butt at the game, so what. There are idiots everywhere, ex. the mom's complaining about the fans are the same ones I dealt with at the mall last week trying to get a present for my wife; they're the same ones that are rude, bitchy, complaining to a clerk that has nothing to do about decisions the store makes, pricing, taxes, register lines, etc. FYI, I was nice to the clerk when I got to the register, spoke in an intelligent, empathetic manner, and told her to take her time ringing my stuff up to give her probably the only break she would get all day. She had tears well up in her eyes and quietly said thank you. After I got home and was checking my stuff, I noticed a 20% discount was put on the receipt labelled as 'preferred customer' and that was the first time I'd ever been to the place. See what happens when you act like a decent person whether you're at a football game, shopping or wherever.

I hope and PRAY (yes, I am Baptist) that OU slaughters the Gators! I am an OSU fan, graduated from SWOSU, but live in Nashville, TN. We are in a 'fan debate' here. Let me say, if you see an OU or OSU bumper sticker, sweatshirt, etc. here in TN, you LOVE them, no matter what. We stick together because the FL fans are insane! They would marry Teebow if they could. Please like each other and be proud. We have a bigger 'gator' to fry here.

Stewart, get a clue. I guess Dean Blevins is a poor aggie? Because he was embarrassed by your boy Sims. And if what he did was so appropriate, why didn't ANYONE yell Sooner back? Not Jason White. Not Steve Owens. Not Sam's dad. Not Stoops. Only Sam, who looked totally embarrassed. You know, it's okay to be proud of Sam and admit that Sim's was out of line. No one will take away your Sooner Card.

The Heisman ceremony should be staged at a Football field with about 60,000 crammed in it. Gameday could have a staged set up on the 20 with the Heisman stage midfield. We could have cheerleaders, Mark May and Lou and Reece in the studio. Everyone could shout and have a good time.

Instead we get this pretentious, reverent ceremony which makes me imagine what a secret society Mason initiation might be like. Oh yeah, and lets have all the past winners stand around on the stage picking their noses, pretending they are doing what???

berry, you mean to say that EVERY person attending a game in B.P. stadium is a graduate of O.S.U.? I'm like Matt, I didn't go to O.U. for several reasons. Life took me in different directions, I am self employed, and have been for quite awhile. I even teach a class on the O.U. campus every year for the last five years. I was even a guest speaker at an O.S.U. event. I did'nt attend O.U., yet, I am one of the biggest O.U. fans there is, even at a young age. MY better half is an O.S.U. grad and is now getting her masters from S.D.S.U. I couldn't be prouder. If our child has the oppurtunity to attend college, it will be his choice where. I've heard O.S.U.'s Robert Allen say on radio he would support his son going to college anywhere, except O.U. Ridiculous. How many Dallas Cowboy fans live in Ok? I'm not one, frankly I don't understand that, when so many Texans hate Okla., but thats their choice and none of my business. Fans can cheer for anybody, anywhere. For your information the greatest president this country has ever known failed multiple times before he became president and salvaged our country. You might have heard of him, He was President Abraham Lincoln. Am I saying that Billy Sims is anything like President Lincoln, No not really but I am saying that just because you fail doesn't mean that you're a failure unless you stop trying to succeed. I would venture to say that Billy Sims has had alot of success in his life and several disappointments but you've got to appreciate his enthusiasm and zest for life.

I don't think that Billy needs to apologize. He's proud of his Sooners and is not afraid to show it. We thought the background "Boomer" was fitting as Sam hugged his parents. Berry, what if I didnt go to college? What if I am in a career that doesnt require a degree? I have a white collar job by the way, Im not digging ditches (no disrespect intended to those that do)

So why is it exactly that I cant be an OU fan? My son is 2, also has never been to college, can he not be an OU fan? I have a friend that is a plumber, went to votech. Also not allowed to be a fan.

Sounds like you may be a bit of an elitist. Even with my LIMITED education and intelligence, I know that an elitist is someone who views himself as superior to a group of people, such as those who could not afford, did not require, or were otherwise unable to attend college.

I am also an Indianapolis Colts fan. However, I have never lived in Indianapolis or played for the team. I guess it is your feeling that I should not be a fan of that team either?

The ratio of BAD OU fans to BAD OSU fans is probably closer to 3 to 1. I have met plenty of both. If you consider that the total number of fans is probably close to 3 to 1 in OU's favorite then you have a comparable percentage.

I bet the people that are saying he is an embarrassment are the same people that drive a prius to work, and sit at a desk all day in their comfort zone, and don't like anything outside the box, live life on a strict schedule. This is not about paying child support. It has nothing to do with disrupting a ceremony for someone else.
This is not about Bedlam. There are good and bad fans for both teams.
This is not about bbq, or the self teachings of "no one can embarass you but you"... (hey, I have had small children, I KNOW that one is not true!)
It's about using good judgement. Billy didn't use good judgement. He could yell Boomer 1000 times if he wanted to, just should have waited until after the ceremony.

Randy, what is your point? It might help if you use capitalization or punctuation. If it's just our feelings are not important, got it.

Kim,Edmond who are you to condemn a heisman winner for being overzealous at an awards banquet. I've taken my kids to several Bedlam games and we all wore our Sooner gear. My family was watching the game and at halftime this Old OSU fan came into our section and started mouthing off to us and tried to start a fight with me and my kids. Every other word was Fthis and Fthis and if we didn't like it we could go back to Norman. I stopped two young kids from OU from kicking this ahole's butt. So don't try to come onto an article about one of our Heisman Trophy winners and criticize his exhuberance and acheivement he publicly apologized for going overboard the old man at Bedlam is lucky he's still walking. Every school has them so get off your high horse and stop acting like OSU doesn't

Remember..it's all about OU. I'm surprised he didn't yell something about buying barbecue. Love those Heisman winners.

l live in Denver Colorado and a few years ago one of our newspapers here sent a reporter to a different Big 12 home game and he rated each team's home fans. He wore a jersey from the visiting team and he ranked OU fans as the nicest and the fans with the most class so OU fans do not need to listen to the jealous people here. I hope the OU fans with keep up the good work and that they will not stoop (no pun intended) to the level of the other fans.

Appropriate: Yelling "Boomer" once or twice.

Inappropriate: Yelling "Boomer" eleven times while Sam is having his big moment.

I love Billy Sims, his enthusiasm, and his love of OU. I just wish he could tone it down a little bit during the ceremony for someone else.

And, please, with the "I had an OU fan talk bad to me in front of kids". It happens both ways (yes, really, it does). There are jerks in red and jerks in orange. Get over it. That has nothing to do with the topic of Billy on Saturday night.

Born and Bred sooner here, class of 2004...I'd say my feelings are pretty common among the many sooners I know, we'd all have been there screaming "sooner" in response. It's who we are, just as we refuse to listen to people who say we should not scream "sooners" at the end of the national anthem. We are all proud of Sam and his many great accomplishments. Thirty years down the road, I imagine Sam would be right next to Sims.

HA HA CLUELESS.....As if we don;'t have enough problems in the world without worrying about a man yelling BOOMER at an awards ceremony. Please!

Kim, I had that happen to me a few years back before the stadium was remodeled. An OU fan looked and me and told me our stadium was s****y and our team sucked. He had his own child with him!
Leigh Ann, Brentwood - Dec 16, 2008 at 8:02 am
Typical..just like the Sooner that cussed me out in front of young children because I committed the heinous crime of pulling for OSU. I feel sorry for the OU fans that actually do have class, because stuff like that makes you all look bad.

how typical of an OU fan.

how embarassing.

Trisha, right on! OU fans think they play UT every game. Enough with the down hookem horns. Sooner fans going to the game: Please do not do that against FL! I hope OU takes it all and shoes Teebow he's a subpar Heisman winner! :) Sims should have tamed it down a bit, but I know he was excited. There is a time and a place for everything though...
Leigh Ann, Brentwood - Dec 16, 2008 at 7:57 am
BOOMER!!! Oh maybe I shouldn't have yelled that on a public message board......Gee hope I didn't offend anyone!!!

It was an embarassment in my opinion. I am a lifelong, die hard Sooner and I don't mind anyone showing enthusiasm and love for their team, as long as it is in good taste and in the appropriate situation. It would be acceptable and encouraged at a game, it was not appropriate Saturday night. I think it just perpetuates the "obnoxious Sooner fans" public opinion. In the same way those fans yell Boomer repeatedly in a dining establishment while other patrons are trying to have a nice meal, or, the worst, those fans that cannot be on national television without displaying the down hookem horns sign, regardless of what team the Sooners are playing. Idiots.

Sims was a great player no doubt, but he absorbed the typical ou classlessness and bragadocio that permeates most of their fandom which most of America, other than the press, can't stomach. One more example, just like the band never shutting up playing the song no matter what stadium they are in. ou is definitely in a "class" of their own!

It never embarassed me that Billy sims yelled Boomer, though I didn't realize he had yelled it 11 times. Big deal. If I'd been there, I might have yelled 12 times. Let those with no faults throw stones, and that means there should be no stones thrown. Boomer, Boomer, Boomer...ad infinitum!

I love it that he cheers. Why can't anybody have a little fun any more? Does everything have to be a "solomn" occasion? It doesn't hurt Sam if an old sooner us up there getting a little rowdy for a few seconds.

No he didn't Phil. You guys are so insecure sometimes. If Teebrow had won it again and there was a UF guy there, Im sure there might have been some Seminole jeering going on too. Be happy that OU has so many Heisman candidates (and most alive) that you could even have a Boomer-Sooner chant. As for slick, let's pry into your life and make sense of your personal doings. What the f does Billy's personal life have to do with you? You 'holier than thau' sick person who looks at other's faults to make yourself look better. I wish all of your type would leave Oklahoma City once and for all - your type is what has held the city back - and why people call you backwater. His personal life should not have any business of yours, unless of course you are OK with sharing your faults on this forum.

How many times has he been thrown in jail for not paying child support? He is NOT a good representative of the university. I cringe when I see and hear him. I for 1 do not want any part of Billy Sims the MAN representing OU. Just goes to show, he hasn't learned a darn thing. Did he graduate? How old was he when he won the Heisman? Can you say embarrassment?
stick, oklahoma city - Dec 16, 2008 at 2:28 am
He's sorry "If" he's offended anyone? Good grief, he offended the whole state with his obnoxious yelling. There is a time and place for stuff like that, and the Downtown Athletic Club isn't either, I don't care who you are. And then he talks to the other members standing in honor of Sam while he's giving his speech. Nope, he showed a side that is an embarrassment, and no CYA for him will do it. What a moron.

Billy, your enthusiasm for Oklahoma football has been evidenced over many years. I respect and appreciate you for ALWAYS representing yourself and the University in a class way/Boomer Sooner
Thomas, lawton - Dec 16, 2008 at 1:47 am
Billy you do not owe me an apology. I appreciate what you have done for the University of Oklahoma and I have always appreciated your enthusiasm and love for OU. In my opinion if any one is due an apology it is you.I cannot believe Sam or Kent Bradford felt you were trying to upstage Sam.As you said you and Kent were teammates he knows the love you have for OU and him as a former teammate.Sam himself said the magnitude of what the Heisman meant hit him when he looked up and saw all the pictures of the SOONERS Heisman winners.I have to believe he was happy you were on the stage with him. Hey Billy BOOMER!!!!!!!!!
