Single-engine airplane crashes near Lake Tenkiller injures two

A small airplane carrying two people crashed Saturday near Cookson Airfield, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported. Both passengers were taken by helicopter to hospitals in Tulsa.

A small airplane carrying two passengers crashed Saturday near Cookson Airfield, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

The single-engine plane took off about 11:45 a.m. Saturday, circled the area and crashed about a mile north of the airfield, troopers said.

Both people on board were taken by helicopter to hospitals in Tulsa in critical condition.

No names were released Saturday.

The airport is in Cherokee County about 10 miles south of Tahlequah, just east of Lake Tenkiller.
