A man accused of killing a Norman parole officer punched his roommate before wrestling the officer's gun away from him and shooting the officer in the head, according to court records filed Wednesday in Oklahoma County District Court.

Lester E. Kinchion, 21, was being held Wednesday in the Oklahoma County jail on a murder complaint in the death of Jeffery Matthew McCoy, 32, outside of a Midwest City residence. Kinchion had not been charged.

McCoy went to 1440 Maple Drive about 11:50 a.m. Friday for a meeting with Cornelius Terry Jr., 44, Midwest City police detective Lacky Harkins wrote in a probable cause affidavit. Terry has a lengthy record of theft offenses and is on parole to finish out his most recent sentence, records show. McCoy was his parole officer.

Kinchion punched Terry in the face when McCoy came to the door of the house, Harkins wrote.

Terry told police he was on the kitchen floor when Kinchion answered the door. Witnesses reported Kinchion attacked McCoy almost immediately.

McCoy was armed with a 9 mm pistol and a baton, but Kinchion wrestled the gun away, knocked McCoy down and shot him in the head, police and witnesses said. Kinchion fired several shots into the air before going back into the house, taking McCoy's weapons, ammunition, handcuffs, badge and identification with him inside.
