Slaughter betrayal to horses and heritage

Published: March 2, 2013

I was dismayed that House Bill 1999 and Senate Bill 375 passed committee. Horse slaughter plants are brutal and unacceptable. Oklahomans aren't so complacent that they would want this to happen. These bills are being pushed through before most Oklahomans have even been made aware of them. Sending a horse to slaughter isn't the least expensive way of ending the life of a horse — it's the greediest. The majority of horse owners don't choose slaughter as an alternative; they believe in humane alternatives. Horse slaughter isn't humane; horse slaughter plants are an atrocity. It's a terrible betrayal of our trusted companion and Oklahoma heritage.
