'Slow, stop and gawk' drivers

I feel sorry for the people and businesses affected by the recent tornado in Moore. However, the damage on either side of Interstate 35 just south of Fourth Street has created major traffic congestion for those traveling north on I-35. Every day, as I travel north, the traffic comes to a stop and then a slow crawl from 19th to Fourth. Why? Rubbernecking, gawking drivers who are stopping across all three lanes of traffic to look and photograph the devastation on both sides of the highway.

Last week, ODOT had a temporary flashing sign advising traffic to continue moving. But it failed to stop the “slow, stop and gawk” drivers. If you want to view the damage, take the service roads or pull off on the shoulder. Better yet, find the photos that are on the Internet. But please stop slamming on your brakes to view the damage, especially during the morning rush hour.
