STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut linebacker Yawin Smallwood and kick returner Nick Williams have been named the Big East's players of the week on defense and special teams.
Smallwood, had 14 tackles, including 3½ behind the line of scrimmage, and 2½ sacks in the Huskies 24-21 win over Maryland on Saturday.
It's the second time in three weeks the sophomore has earned the honor.
Williams, a senior, had 112 all-purpose yards, including a 58-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Pittsburgh quarterback Tino Sunseri, who led the Panthers to a 35-17 upset of Virginia Tech, was named the offensive player of the week.
