Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart added another honor Tuesday, named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press. The latest nod makes Smart a consensus All-American, after he was previously named a first-team All-American by Sporting News and second-team by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Smart becomes just the sixth player – and first freshman – in school history to be a consensus All-American. James Anderson, in 2010, was the last Cowboys to earn consensus All-American status.

The others: Byron Houston in 1992, Bob Mattick in 1954, Gale McArthur in 1951 and Bob Kurland from 1944-46.

Smart’s other honors from this season include the Wayman Tisdale Award, given to the nation’s top freshman, and Big 12 Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year.

Smart led the Cowboys in scoring (15.4 ppg), assists (4.2) and steals (3.0) and tied for second in rebounding (5.8), as OSU finished 24-9 overall and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.
