Sobriety checkpoint tonight in Oklahoma City area

Oklahoma County sheriff's office deputies will conduct a sobriety checkpoint tonight in the Oklahoma City area, spokesman Mark Meyers said.

The location of the checkpoint has not been released to the public, but Meyers said deputies will primarily be looking for people under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The timing of the event is in anticipation of more intoxicated drivers on the road because of St. Patrick's Day festivities.

Deputies will stop vehicles heading through the checkpoint and ask for driver's licenses, and drivers who show signs of intoxication will be directed to an area off the road for further evaluation, Meyers said.

The sheriff's office encourages everyone to plan a safe way home by designating a sober driver or calling a taxi or sober friend or family member.
