Oklahoma City Energy FC announced on Tuesday it will host its opening tryouts this weekend at South Lakes Soccer Complex in southwest Oklahoma City.
The open tryouts will be a two-day affair, with drills and workouts taking place on Saturday, Feb. 15 and organized scrimmages set for Sunday afternoon. Saturday’s workouts will be set in two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
“A player has to be of an appropriate standard to even have a chance,” Energy FC general manager Jason Hawkins said. “Even if they have all the tools, it still depends on how they fit in to the framework of the team as a whole.”
Energy FC have already signed five players to contracts and will be loaned at least two more from its Major League Soccer affiliate Sporting Kansas City. Michael Thomas became the first player in franchise history to sign on Jan. 29. Thomas is one of four midfielders Oklahoma City has already signed.
Interested participants can sign up for the open tryouts on the team’s website or in person Saturday morning at South Lakes Soccer Complex on SW 119th and Meridian. Registration is from 8-9:30 a.m., with the first workout session to begin at 10 a.m. The afternoon session is from 3-5 p.m.
Sunday’s scrimmages will be from 1-5 p.m.
