Players make their pitch to get softball back in Olympics

Needing only a simple majority, a 52-52 voting deadlock kept softball off the 2012 Olympic program, and it left the game’s frontline supporters like Michele Smith wondering what could have been done to sway one more voter.

The sport has had four years since that painful defeat to build support and try to get back on the schedule for the 2016 Olympics , a decision that will be finalized in the next three months...
