  • Story line: Team USA needed Monica Abbott, Jennie Finch and Cat Osterman to overcome offensive struggles and beat Oklahoma 2-0, Tuesday night before 3,591 at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.

  • It was over when: Left fielder Jessica Mendoza snagged Susan Ogden’s pop fly with the tying run on first base and two outs in the top of the seventh inning, securing the victory.

  • Play of the game: Crystl Bustos cranked a double to left center in the bottom of the third inning, driving in Caitlin Lowe for Team USA’s second and final score of the game.

  • Star of the game: Lowe was the only batter from either team able to get on track. She finished the night 2-of-3 with a single, a triple and a run scored.

  • Quotable: Mendoza on her team’s lack of intensity: “If we knew this game was going to be 2-0 — that we wouldn’t do anything offensively — we’d be like, ‘What are you kidding me?’ It’s like we expected it to be 10-0 and it wasn’t.”

  • Noteworthy: Tuesday’s game was special for OU senior Savannah Long as she got her first hit against Team USA and former Texas ace Cat Osterman in three tries. Osterman tossed her most consistent pitch — the drop-ball — and Long sent it dribbling to shortstop for a single.

“My hit wasn’t pretty, but it was a hit,” Long said.
