Softball's super fans

Look around the Women's College World Series this week, and you'll find that every squad has fans whose love for their team is extreme.

There are the football players from Louisiana-Lafayette who couldn't be stopped by a pair of speeding tickets, and the retirees from Arizona who drive to every game. There is the former softball player from Alabama who found solace in softball, the team chaplain from Florida who preaches the Gator gospel and the guys from Texas A&M who call themselves the sugar daddies.

And what about the Arizona State fan who had to start the booster club before he could join it? Or the UCLA fans who wear a different color blue in North Carolina? Or the Virginia Tech fan who is as much a part of Hokie athletics as the maroon and orange?

They have traveled long distances, invested their emotion and demonstrated their allegiance.

These softball radicals have earned their tag — super fan.
