Soldiers say goodbye to families before Afghanistan deployment

About 50 members of the Oklahoma National Guard will deploy to Afghanistan, where they will be operating CH-47 Chinook helicopters.

Where are the soldiers going?

The soldiers from Detachment 1, Company B, 2nd Battalion, 149th General Support Aviation Battalion are deploying to Afghanistan.

Timeline

The soldiers will get eight to 12 weeks of training at Fort Hood, Texas, before they go overseas. They should return next spring.

What will they do?

The unit will help evacuate wounded soldiers using CH-47 Chinook helicopters. The Chinook is a heavy cargo helicopter capable of transporting large numbers of people and equipment.
