I applaud each and every effort that U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn has expended in his effort to make our government better. However, the problems we face can't be remedied by the addition of laws, rules and regulations. The faults lie in the members of the Senior Executive Service (SES), the people who run these offices, those who determine that these expenditures are needed, those who approve these expenditures and those who stay in the $1,500-per-night hotels. These members of the SES are the government workers whose pay grade is far above the pay grades that we are familiar with at Tinker. Their minimum pay starts at $119,000 and tops out at more than $179,000 per year. These individuals have lost their moral compasses and forgotten the oaths that they took when they entered government service. They're using these “perks” to shore up their egotistic personalities. Their extravagances should result in their being fired.
