For those craving a Coney or cream slush on Christmas Day, Sonic drive-ins will be among the few businesses open Sunday.
Fans of the Oklahoma City-based restaurant chain have responded positively to having Sonic open on Christmas Day, according to Omar Janjua, president of Sonic Restaurants Inc., Sonic Corp.'s division of company owned drive-ins. Most of the 44 company-owned (nonfranchise) locations in the metro will have some hours on Christmas.
“This gives our customers an opportunity to grab a unique Sonic drink during happy hour and a bite to eat while out and about visiting family and friends and enjoying the lights,” Janjua said.
He said, in general, employees volunteer to work on holidays such as Christmas, and managers don't find it necessary to compel people to work.
Other restaurants open include some McDonald's, Whataburger, IHOP, Buffalo Wild Wings and Starbucks locations.
Walgreens and CVS drugstores will be open, and so will many movie theaters, such as the Warren Theatres in Moore.
And for last-minute grocery needs, Crest Foods stores never close.
