Sonics quoteboard

Published: June 27, 2008

"When I look at that selection, I cannot believe they passed up on Kevin Love. You can always find some guards later. But a guy like Love, you put Love, Durant and Green across the front line, now Seattle's really got something special. I think they're going to really regret not taking Kevin Love.” — ESPN's Dick Vitale

"He's a great defender, a great guy to be around, I heard. He's a great addition to our team. So I'm excited to play with him next year and I can't wait.” — Sonics forward Kevin Durant on Russell Westbrook, the Sonics' pick at No. 4

"I don't consider him a point guard. He's not a natural at that position. But he may be the best individual defender in the draft, on the perimeter anyway. So he's got a lot to offer.” — ESPN draft analyst Jay Bilas

"(Westbrook) is the surprise pick of the draft going No. 4 to the Sonics. So they're either going to look like geniuses, or as Ricky Ricardo would say, ‘They got some explaining to do.' — ESPN analyst Mark Jackson

"This guy is the youngest player in the draft. If you're a Sonics fan, or maybe an Oklahoma City fan, forget this name for about three or four years, because he's likely to stay in Spain and continue to develop. But he is one of the most athletic players in this draft. And I think that he's a guy...three or four years from now, he could end up being a shot-blocker and rebounder because he's a very good athlete.” — ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla on Serge Ibaka, who the Sonics drafted with the No. 24 pick

i hate to say it, but i believe Vitale does not know the NBA as well as he thinks. Stick to College Dickey.

Vitale says you can always find a guard later. How important is Rondo to the Celtics? Or Williams to the Jazz? Or Paul to the Hornets? You NEED a strong guard to be championship caliber. I disagree with Dickie V...I think they made a great pick.
