Cooper, 40, was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury in Oklahoma City on a felony assault charge.
Cooper is accused of beating up another inmate Jan. 11 at the federal prison in El Reno, leaving the other man with serious injuries, according to court papers.
Cooper was sentenced in September 2006 to more than six years in prison for bilking clients out of nearly $1 million while he was a stockbroker.
Cooper was a tight end at OU who went on to spend six seasons in the National Football League.
He was indicted on securities fraud and money laundering charges in November 2005, three months after being barred from working as a stockbroker because of "dishonest or unethical practices.”
Cooper was sentenced to six years and three months in prison on Sept. 18, 2006.
At that sentencing, Cooper acknowledged he had made mistakes but vowed to be a person who is "good in the community” after his release.
The federal grand jury in Oklahoma City also indicted Alva resident Rita Ramy on bank robbery and embezzlement charges.
Ramy, 41, faces 20 counts of embezzlement for taking almost $15,000 from Woods County Medicine and Pediatric Specialists between April 2004 and March 2005.
She also is accused of bank robbery in the theft of more than $1,000 from Community Bank of Alva on March 24.
