Sooner Poll: Oklahomans don't want a government shutdown

by Chris Casteel Published: September 26, 2013

Pat McFerron, president of Cole, Hargrave, Snodgrass and Associates, of Oklahoma City, reports today of a new poll by the firm that shows Oklahoma, perhaps the reddest of all red states, doesn’t want the federal government to shut down over Obamacare, even though Oklahomans don’t like the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare.

McFerron writes: “Despite being opposed to the implementation of the ACA, Oklahomans are strongly opposed to shutting down the government as a way to achieve that objective. Even among registered Republicans, a majority opposes shutting down the government. Only 36% of registered Republicans favor shutting down the government as a way to defund Obamacare, while more than half (51%) oppose doing so. Only 10% of registered Democrats favor shutting down the government.
“Among those who “strongly oppose’ implementation of the ACA, almost half (49%) also oppose shutting down the government to stop it. Among those only “somewhat opposed” to Obamacare, 87% oppose shutting down the government.”
