Sooner Theatre is seeking a dog to play Toto in its upcoming SummerStage production of “The Wizard of Oz.”

Auditions for dogs will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the theater, 101 E Main St. “The Wizard of Oz” will be performed June 27 through July 1.

The successful dog will receive billing in the show and lots of attention from the 81-member cast of 8- to 13-year-old performers. The owner/handler will receive a T-shirt, billing in the program, cast photo, invitation to the cast party and six free tickets to the performances.

No compensation will be paid for the dog's appearance.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes are welcome to try out for the part. Dogs should be able to follow basic commands such as sit, stay, come and run from either the owner/handler offstage or an actor.

Dogs must be willing to be carried in a basket and to be picked up by young actors. The animal can't be frightened by or distracted by live music, audience responses and clapping or actors moving on stage.

The dog chosen for the part must be leash trained and available for eight performances, as well as rehearsals that begin June 18.

The owner or guardian must be available for daytime rehearsals and all eight performances.

For more information about the auditions, call 321-9600.
