— Auditions for Sooner Theatre's production of “Man of La Mancha” will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with callbacks at 7 p.m. Monday.

“Man of La Mancha” will be the opening production for Sooner Theatre's 10th season of the Sooner Stage Presents series. Performance dates are Sept. 28-30 and Oct. 5-7.

Rehearsals will begin about five weeks before performances start.

Auditions will be by appointment only.

Performers should prepare to sing 16 bars of two contrasting Broadway-style songs.

They should bring sheet music, a headshot and resume to the audition.

Recorded accompaniment and a cappella auditions are not permitted.

The production will be directed by University of Oklahoma musical theater professor Vince Leseney and choreographed by OU musical theater professor Lyn Cramer.

“Man of La Mancha” is considered one of the great theater successes of all time.

This play within a play, based on Cervantes' “Don Quixote,” is a poignant story of a dying old man whose impossible dream takes over his mind.

Sooner Theatre, 101 E Main St. in Norman, receives funding support from the Oklahoma Arts Council, the National Endowment of the Arts, the Norman Arts Council, the city of Norman and Republic Bank & Trust.
