The University of Oklahoma’s student athletes had, collectively, a successful year.

The Sooners rank eighth in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup for the 2012-13 academic year with 1,104.25 points. For the last four years, Oklahoma has placed in the top 15.

The cup is awarded annually to the nation’s best overall collegiate athletics program by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Learfield and USA Today.   The final standings will be announced at the end of the College World Series. Regardless, the Sooners have never placed higher than the 10th-place finish they received in 2010-11.

Stanford will snag the first-place finish with a score of 1261.25. It’s the Cardinals 19th consecutive year ranked atop the standings. Florida (1219.75) and Michigan (1138.25) are second and third, respectively.

Oklahoma ranks first of universities in the Big 12 Conference, ahead of Texas, who with 966.75 ranks second in the conference and grabs the No. 12 spot.

The Sooners completed the spring season with the fifth-highest total in the nation, with all 10 teams competing totaling 447.75 points.
