A day after missing out on the Big 12 Coach of the Year as selected by the coaches, Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger was named The Associated Press Big 12 Coach of the Year.
The awards were selected by media who cover the conference.
Iowa State’s Melvin Ejim won Player of the Year honors, Kansas’ Andrew Wiggins was named Freshman of the Year and Iowa State’s DeAndre Kane earned Newcomer of the Year.
Ejim, Kane and Wiggins were joined on the first team by Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart and West Virginia’s Juwan Staten.
Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield earned second team honors and Cameron Clark and Ryan Spangler were named honorable mentions.
Oklahoma State’s Markel Brown also was named to the second team.
Kruger was named the Mountain West’s Coach of the Year in 2008 and the SEC Coach of the Year in 1992 and 1994.
