Now that quarterback Sam Bradford is coming back, the Oklahoma coaching staff is working hard to get him at least one more target to throw to.

Among the four-star wide receivers the Sooners are reportedly trying to snag are Mississippi State commit Chad Bumphis (Tupelo, Miss.), Illinois commit Terry Hawthorne (East St. Louis, Ill.) and Auburn junior-college commit Cameron Kenney (Garden City, Kan.).

The Sooners are also in on the nation’s No. 1 wide receiver, Rueben Randle, who has listed OU among his final five schools with just over two weeks until signing day.

OU has just one wide receiver commitment (Jaz Reynolds) after Eric Ward recently switched his verbal from OU to Texas Tech.

I totally disagree with that theory. SEC has a totally different style and mindset when it comes to defenses. Urban himself said it, they went with nothing but balls to the wall speed. Every person on that defensive squad had a 40 time better than 4.5. His line of thinking: if I can get someone there quicker, the better. BIG 12 defense is not based on speed, and it showed up at the BCS game. I was proud how we handled it, but by 4th quarter, everybody is sucking wind. We did use speed to our advantage with the no huddle offense, but when a defensive side is really fast, they can combat that. When Brown ran in the first touchdown for OU, we were burning through the no huddle offense like crazy. What I mean is that we quickly snapped the ball and stead of getting set and then looking over for directions. I think if OU would have played that quick-no huddle offense the whole game, we would have won because how do you combat a fast defense, with quick/no huddle offense, and come 4th quarter, they will be sucking wind as well. But one thing to remember, this is the first year we tried that. We've seen the results and where it could take you. Now we work on prefecting that during the off season and be ready to roll come September.

Eric, is Kevin Wilson worth a pay raise? I mean the guy cant coordinate an offense in the post season or against a Texas defense coordinated by a former SEC DC. Bob needs to schedule more SEC teams during the season to give Wilson some practice. I mean come on, OU had every weapon except Murray who was a huge loss and still couldn't out score the Gators. Give credit to the Gators D they were more hungry and enthusiastic than the OU offense. Give credit to OU's D. They played hard and kept Florida in check most of the game. It was difficult for a defense to have to keep Tebow from taking over when they spent most of the last twelve minutes on the field. Yea I agree, Switzer was an outstanding recruiter. Bob is not too shabby either but it would be nice to steal some fire from the SEC once in a while.

Jo. Switzer had amazing recruiting classes. First, you need to remember that NCAA recruiting class limits are much lower now than they were under Switzer. Because Switzer had much bigger recruiting classes than are now allowed, he could stockpile talent in a way that no school can now. Next, for at least part of Switzer's tenure, Big 8 players received a generous "laundry allowance." NCAA rules do not allow this now. Third, OU was the only game on Armed Forces radio each week. Normally, only 1 or 2 games were televised each week. No one had more games televised than OU. These were amazing recruiting tools. Switzer's recruiting classes were so good that in the mid- to late- 1970's, 2 sports casters were discussing Oklahoma's recruiting class that year. One noted that OU had the majority of the top recruits in the country. The other replied that this meant OU had gone recruiting against the rest of the nation and won. They not only beat every other school individually, but all of the other schools combined. NCAA rules and a greatly expanded television schedule prevent any school from doing that now.

The ignore feature is so cool. Wish some of the message boards had that, if they do I will find it.

Should be an excellent recruiting class and another outstanding football season in 2009. 3 Big 12 Championships in a row, maybe a 4th?

coach stoops recruits great players across the nation, look whats coming in alot of talent that could start as freshmen chiassion, wort, the kid of dewar okla and others. oklahoma will be ok and make another run with sam and jermaine leading the offense. and the defense with gerald mcCoy getting his boys fired-up on every play. they be even better in 2009. some of these outsiders are not ou-fans, must be bandwagons or ou-haters. i was so glad sam and jermaine and others decided too come back thank you guys, oklahoma needs your leadership on and off the field. the harrison will see you in the north endzone at every home game. look for the camflouge ou-coveralls. ou-johnny has you back win or lose. ou-johnny in texas down hwy79-too olney,tx.

Jo.
You are a fricking idiot. Stoops has had nowhere near the talent or depth that Switzer had as a coach. Now do something useful like wash some clothes or iron some shirts. PS Hope you enjoyed the Holiday Bowl!!

Bobster, how about some 4 star linemen to protect Sam and help us punch the ball into the endzone??????

OU will be fine. Owens is a star ready to be born. And as for another post about firing Bob Stoops. That is absolutely insane!!!

Forget that in the recent BCS championship game that three plays and Oklahoma has 35 points not 14. It was snake bitten in the swamp on what effectively was a home field, like LSU had in 2004 and Miami in 1988. Play the game in winter in winter conditions and you have a true champion. Don't let southern teams who play home games count the championship game as a true accomplishment.

20 or so of UT's bowl wins have been in Texas in the Cotton, Bluebonnet, Sun or Alamo Bowls and its only Big XII Championship in 12 years took place in Houston. 24 of USC's bowl wins have been in its backyard and it does not need to play a championship game in the frigid night in Missouri.

McCoy and UT barely beat a Ohio State team that would have been 8-4 at best in the Big XII Conference and dominated UT most of the game. OU took a FU team with what essentially was a home field game tied until the late fourth quarter.

Further, as poorly as Sam Bradford did in the first two years, throwing for 86 touchdowns, which is better than any quarterback has ever accomplished, he may do worse next year and still have a great year. Tebow's second year his team went 8-4 and lost a bowl game. But Tebow's raising people from the dead and touring as the blustering Gaston in "Beauty and the Beast" put a damper on his wins and losses although he was able to glorify himself with the Heisman win as a sophomore.

edwin, Tulsa - Jan 19, 2009 at 11:58 am
Jo, you convinced me, OU should fire Bob Stoops. Winning only 102 games over nine years is not enough, even though nobody else has ever done it. Winning six conference championships in nine years while having to play a championship game in frigid weather in December at night is not enough, although nobody else has ever done it. Scoring 716 points in a season is not enough, though nobody has done it in over a century. The team is a failure. Bob Stoops is a failure. Fire Bob Stoops. The universe will be better for it.

HooRay,HooRay, Stoops is going to have another top 10 class. He's probably had more
top10, ballyhoo'd recruiting class's in his short 10 year career than Switzer has in 16, but
there is one exception. Barry got the most out of his players when it counted, and didn't
have to rely on the press to cover for him when he failed. Where are all these critics when
Bob blows another BCS game? The real money pit is that football coach, Capel is earning
his keep. If Capel wins the Big 12(mediocre) basketball conference, goes to the dance and
wins a couple in his third year, that will more than equal Stoops output. Stoops has backed
into 2 big 12 titles in the last 4 years, and it showed. Can't win the big game. Ballyhoo'd
recruiting class's, but still can't finish the deal. He's winning the Big 12 title almost every
year, and as we all saw the Big 12 is a mediocre conference, when lining up against another
conference. Whats the problem Sooner Fans?

So, jo, you can bag on one coach who's made the big game four times since 2000 and won it once? His odds every year are about one in 119 of even making that game. It's called perspective How did your guys do in the Holiday Bowl there jo?
