For the second consecutive season, Oklahoma kicker Michael Hunnicutt is one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, given to the nation’s top college kicker.
Hunnicutt is 16 of 18 on field-goal attempts this season, hitting two of three from longer than 40 yards out. The junior has also hit 26 of 27 extra-point tries.
Hunnicutt is joined on the list by last year’s winner, Tulane’s Cairo Santos. The pair are among five returning semifinalists.
Two other Big 12 kickers made the list–Texas Tech’s Ryan Bustin and Texas’ Anthony Fera.
The list will be narrowed to three finalists in a vote of FBS head coaches, sports information directors, past finalists for the award and football writers. The finalists will be announced Nov. 25 and honored at the 22nd annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Awards Banquet on Dec. 10 in West Palm Beach, Fla. The winner will be announced Dec. 12 on ESPN’s College Football Awards Show.
