Oklahoma basketball coach Jeff Capel says point guard is the only true position remaining in college basketball. Finally, the Sooners seem to have landed a true point guard.

Tommy Mason-Griffin, a Houston high school standout, gave his commitment to OU on Monday. A 5-10 prospect, Mason-Griffin is the No. 5-ranked point guard in the country according to ESPN and the No. 72 player in the country according to Rivals.com. He chose the Sooners over Texas, Memphis and Baylor, among others.

Capel has said it takes a point guard plus four more good players on the floor to thrive. Capel's two seasons in Norman have seen the coach get a bit creative fitting players at the point.

More creativity could be required this season.

Mason-Griffin offers stability for the future.

"I just felt like it was the best situation for me,” Mason-Griffin told SoonerScoop.com. "I wanted to get everything out of the way so I can just enjoy the rest of my summer. I thought if I knew where I wanted to go there was no point waiting.”

Mason-Griffin had played at Houston's Madison High, but plans to transfer to Virginia's famed Oak Hill Academy for his senior season.

After a junior season in which he led Madison to the Class 5A Region III finals, he was named All-Greater Houston Boys Basketball Player of the Year by the Houston Chronicle.

Like your parents settled for you Toby when they were given a pick between you or a human child?

john Wall would be a for sure one and done person (still wouldn't mind having him for a year though) Tommy will be a pretty nice true guard whose ranking will probably rise after the summer. I hope OSU can land Wall that would be nice to see them get a high profile recruit and would make bedlem really interesting

OU had to "settle" for a top 5 point guard...sounds good to me!

And Wall is the #1 recruit in the country, according to many recruiting experts. Mason-Griffin will be up there with him after his performance this summer.

Chad, OU nabbed a great PG in Mason-Griffin. Baylor and Oregon are not Wall's top 2. OSU is up there with both, believe me. If he comes, what a great duel to watch in the near future. Mason-Griffin vs. Wall. Talk about a heated game.

Capel continues to amaze, both as an in-game coach and as a recruiter. The Sooners are indeed on the way up.
.. And Chad, "Toby" is just that loser troll from Seattle. Don't feed her.

Capel continues to reel in those recruits. OU basketball is on the rise. With Willie Warren and now Mason-Griffin, OU's guards will be hard to stop in a few years.

Is John Wall a top 5 point guard in the country? Tommy Mason-Griffin is a top 5 point guard. Looks like John Wall will either be going to Oregon or Baylor. I think OSU is his 3rd choice.
