Sooners open up playbook, rout No. 17 Florida State
Bob Stoops admitted after last week's game against Utah State that he wasn't nervous. He knew his Sooners had something left in the offensive playbook to show Florida State.
NORMAN — Bob Stoops said earlier in the week his Oklahoma offense was holding a lot of its playbook back for Florida State.
Saturday, Stoops showed he wasn't kidding.
Coming off a lackluster performance in last week's opener, the Sooner offense scored touchdowns on its first four possessions, igniting a 47-17 rout of the No. 17 Seminoles at Owen Field.
"I wasn't worried about last week," Stoops said. "I know what we're capable of when we're able to (use the whole playbook)."
Out of the gate, OU gashed Florida State with quick swing passes to Ryan Broyles and DeMarco Murray, something the Sooners didn't show at all last week.
"Last week, we probably used 60 percent of our plays, if that," said Broyles, who led the Sooners with 12 catches for 124 yards and a touchdown. "It feels a lot better to go out there and be able to call the plays we need at any time."
One week after not throwing a pass in their direction, quarterback Landry Jones also threw to tight ends James Hanna and Trent Ratterree for scores, catching the Seminoles off-guard.
"As I said a week ago, we held a lot," Stoops said. "We brought it all out tonight."
