Sooners ready for Bedlam Blood Battle
NORMAN -- This year’s Bedlam Blood Battle with Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) is set for Nov. 12-16.
The University of Oklahoma will compete with Oklahoma State University to see which can rally the most blood donors on campus. Blood drives will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day in the OU ROTC Armory, North Armory Room.
It is located just east of the football stadium. If blood donors on the OU campus outnumber those on OSU’s, a trophy will be presented to student group leaders during halftime of the Bedlam football halftime game.
Each donor will receive an OU “I Bleed Crimson” T-shirt, free food, and a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Nov. 24 Bedlam football game**.
One lucky donor each day will win a football autographed by OU Head Football Coach Bob Stoops.
"The Bedlam Blood Drive is a great event that brings Oklahomans together for a greater cause," said Joe Castiglione, OU's vice president of intercollegiate athletics. "We encourage all fans to get out and support this drive which will benefit many Oklahomans."
Every two seconds, someone needs blood. Donors with OBI provide every drop of blood needed by patients in more than 140 medical facilities across Oklahoma including all hospitals in the OKC metro area.
Typically, those who are healthy and age 16* or older are eligible to donate blood every 56 days. “Without a doubt, we’re thrilled to continue the Bedlam Blood Battle this year,” said OBI president and CEO Dr. John Armitage.
