Sophomore wide receiver Trey Metoyer not suited up for Saturday's home game vs. TCU

NORMAN — Oklahoma sophomore wide receiver Trey Metoyer wasn’t present during pregame warmups before Saturday night’s home game against TCU.

Metoyer has caught two passes this season for 18 yards and one touchdown.

The former five-star prospect from Whitehouse, Texas, originally signed with OU in its recruiting class of 2011, but was forced to spend a semester at Virginia’s Hargrave Military Academy because of academic issues.

He enrolled at OU in the spring semester of 2012 and was expected to be an instant superstar. But after starting the first four games of his freshman season, he rarely played the rest of the year.

Asked about Metoyer after practice Tuesday, co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach Jay Norvell gave a cryptic answer.

“It’s not an easy thing to play college football,” Norvell said. “There’s a lot of responsibilities, there’s a lot of things day in and day out and you have to accomplish. It’s more than just running a deep ball. He’s just got to be more consistent.

“He’s going through some things right now. He’s trying to get his hands around it. And so we just wish him the best as he works his way through that.”
