Sotomayor rebuts critics of ‘wise Latina’ quote
WASHINGTON — Sonia Sotomayor, the nation’s first Hispanic U.S. Supreme Court nominee, vowed loyalty to "the impartiality of our justice system” Monday, confronting Republican skeptics at Senate hearings.

WASHINGTON — Anti-abortion protesters briefly disrupted Sonia Sotomayor’s Supreme Court nomination hearing on several occasions Monday. Security quickly removed the first of the protesters. The initial episode prompted a warning by committee chairman Sen. Patrick Leahy that no displays for or against the nominee would be tolerated from observers. That didn’t stop further outbursts.
