CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) — South Africa coach Gordon Igesund has admitted himself to a hospital with severe abdominal pains.

The South African Football Association says Igesund went in on Tuesday and "might be suffering from appendicitis," according to initial tests.

The doctor treating Igesund says further tests are being carried out to confirm the diagnosis but he is confident Igesund "will be back on his feet soon."

Dr. Ephraim Nematswerani says "it is nothing too serious."

The 56-year-old Igesund led host South Africa to the quarterfinals at the recent African Cup of Nations before it was eliminated by Mali in a penalty shootout.
