MOORE - Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs have joined forces to improve the health of Oklahomans from South Asia.

Organizations representing all three religious groups are collaborating on a free health fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Gujarati Samaj of Oklahoma, 2900 N Santa Fe, in Moore.

About 40 doctors from the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin will volunteer their time to check people's vital signs, test blood sugar levels and screen for various maladies, said Dr. Jyotish Soni, the association's past president.

Soni initiated the annual health fair in 2004. Attendance has ranged from 250 to 370, he said.

Indians and Pakistanis are more susceptible to diabetes and have higher rates of heart disease.
