South Carolina picks Romney for president

Since Romney's nomination, South Carolina has been considered firmly in his camp. Republicans hold all statewide elected offices in South Carolina and control both legislative chambers.

Romney hasn't had a public campaign stop in South Carolina since January's presidential primary, though he and his wife have each held a fundraiser since. Running mate Paul Ryan raised money in the state last month.

President Barack Obama hasn't appeared publicly here since his 2008 primary contest, though Michelle Obama visited Fort Jackson last.
