HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Southern Miss and Alabama-Birmingham have had a competitive and spirited rivalry over the past few years.

One of them is finally going to have some success this season at the expense of the other on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles (0-8, 0-4 Conference USA) and the Blazers (1-7, 0-4) have both slogged through an extremely difficult season.

Southern Miss is one of two teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision that still doesn't have a victory. It continues to be a stunning fall for a program that finished with a program-high 12 wins last season.

UAB is trying to fix a defense that's given up more than 44 points per game in four conference losses. The Blazers' only victory this season is against Southeastern Louisiana, which plays in the Football Championship Subdivision.
