MOORE — There were so many standout offensive players, plays, points and lead changes in Friday's Southmoore-Del City game, it looked more like one of those no-defense NBA All-Star games rather than a battle between two football teams on the cusp of joining Class 6A's upper echelon.

In the end, the pinball offensive game came down to a defensive play — an interception by Southmoore's Ty Young with 1:16 remaining — to seal Southmoore's 54-42 victory.
Actually, nothing could halt this score-a-thon. Young's play merely iced the outcome for the SaberCats. Just to keep the theme of the night going, Southmoore went ahead and punched in another touchdown (and 2-point conversion) in the remaining 76 seconds.
Junior running back Kyuann Thompson ran for 154 yards and scored four touchdowns (three by rush, one on a 41-yard screen pass), and sophomore quarterback Kendal Thompson had the best game of his young career to move the SaberCats to 2-2 overall, 1-0 in District 6A-1. Kendal Thompson completed 13 of 28 passes for 210 yards, five TDs and one interception and ran for 80 yards on 12 carries.
It took all of the heroics of both Thompsons to overcome the outings of Del City running back James Allen and quarterback Chazten Gonzales. Allen ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns to go along with Gonzales' 283 yards passing, which included four TD tosses — two of which brought the Eagles (1-3) back from a 40-28 fourth-quarter deficit to a 42-40 lead with 2:36 to play.
Still, in this game, that was plenty of time for Southmoore to retaliate. Austin Reece latched onto Kendal Thompson's 18-yard TD toss with 1:30 to go to give the SaberCats the lead back at 46-42. That led to Young's interception and Kyuann Thompson's final-minute touchdown run to push the score into the 50s.
Chris McAlister caught three touchdown passes for Del City and Juliam Brokington added an 80-yard scoring grab. Austin Reece and Derek Serowski each snared a pair of TD passes for Southmoore, which scored 26 third-quarter points after falling behind 20-7 in the second quarter.
The teams combined for 46 first downs and 947 yards of offense (Del City 503, Southmoore 444).

Great win Sabercats. Coach Jenson and his staff are doing a great job and at the rate they are progressing they will be one of the top 5 teams in the state next season.
Congratulations to Coach Jenson, the coaching staff and the SaberCats! Had the opportunity to work with Coach Jenson a few years ago and knew there was something special in his coaching! Keep up the great work!
