Southmoore football: SaberCats have a new coach and a new look

Change has been the main theme around Southmoore since the end of last season. The SaberCats have a new head coach in Jeremy Stark, two 1,000-yard running backs are gone, and they’ve completely overhauled their style of offense.

The SaberCats have a new head coach in Jeremy Stark, two 1,000-yard running backs are gone, and they’ve completely overhauled their style of offense.

But even with all the change, Southmoore doesn’t expect to spend its first season in the new Class 6A-I in the cellar.

“Offensively we’ve got a lot of talent at the skill positions, but they’re inexperienced,” said first-year Southmoore coach Jeremy Stark. “We lost a lot of seniors last year. We’ve still got the skill, though. We play Edmond Memorial Week 1, Westmoore Week 2, and Edmond Santa Fe Week 3, so we’ll find out quite a bit about where we’re at those first three weeks.”

Another area of inexperience for the SaberCats is in the offensive line, where they must replace four starters.

The new-look offensive line will be responsible for protecting either returning starter Conner Uselton or freshman Casey Thompson at quarterback. The two remained locked in a battle for the starting spot throughout preseason practices.
