Southmoore state champion Nathan Marek's high school wrestling career ended prematurely Friday night after he was disqualified during his 170-pound semifinal match at the Class 6A west regional wrestling tournament at Southmoore.

Marek told The Oklahoman he accidentally hit his opponent in the face with an open fist while trying to defend a shot attempt on the edge of the mat, and that the action was misinterpreted. He called the situation embarrassing for him.

The senior has signed with the University of Oklahoma and is ranked 18th in the country at 170 pounds by InterMat Wrestling. He was a state champion as a sophomore and runner-up as a junior.
