Southwestern Oklahoma State remains atop state college power poll

by Scott Munn Published: September 24, 2013

The Oklahoman's Week 3 state college football power poll:

1. Southwestern (2-1): The Bulldogs could easily be unbeaten, but a comeback bid against Southern Arkansas was a little too late. Kudos to a defense that limited Southern Arkansas to 20 points; the Muleriders were averaging 50 per game. Next: 6 p.m. Saturday vs. Arkansas-Monticello (2-1)

2. East Central (1-2): East Central needs an exceptional defensive effort this week. Henderson State quarterback Kevin Rodgers is a stud. Next: 3 p.m. Saturday at Henderson State, Ark. (3-0)

3. Southeastern (1-2): Giving powerful Henderson State (Ark.) a scare last week should put future opponents on notice — Southeastern might be better than its record indicates. Next: 7 p.m. Saturday at Ouachita Baptist, Ark. (2-0)

4. Central Oklahoma (0-3): The Bronchos have a heck of an offense with quarterback Adrian Nelson, wide receiver Marquez Clark and running back Joshua Birmingham. The defense remains a project. Next: 2:37 p.m. Saturday at Washburn, Kan. (3-0)

5. Bacone (2-2): The Warriors were sacrificial lambs at Lamar last weekend. Now they can look ahead to a winnable Central States Football League schedule. Next: 6 p.m. Saturday vs. Haskell, Kan. (0-4)

6. Langston (0-3): The record is ugly, but the Lions are playing a brutal nonconference schedule. As long as Langston remains healthy, it will be a contender for the CSFL title, too. Next: 6 p.m. Saturday at Northwestern, La. (2-2)
