Southwestern pair does well

Two Southwestern Oklahoma State University contestants were in first place after the first go-round Sunday at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo.

Steven Smith led the bareback riding with an 81.5 score, 1.5 seconds better than Denny Phillips of Dickinson State (N.D.). Bandy Murphy was atop the bull riding standings. He had an 84.5. Brody Erickson of Trinity Valley Community College (Texas) was second at 83.5.

The rodeo lasts through Saturday.
