Special needs bowling, basketball leagues forming

YUKON -- The Yukon Spirit League's bowling and basketball seasons begin soon. The Yukon Spirit League is a sports league  designed for children and adults with disabilities. Both Leagues will foster teamwork and socialization as well as development of basketball and bowling skills.

Spirit Bowling will be held each Tuesday of February beginning Feb. 5 through the Feb. 26.  Games will be held at AMF Yukon Lanes, 500 E Main, beginning at 4 p.m. Cost is $25 for the league and includes two games per week and shoe rental. Lane bumpers and ball ramps will be available for the bowlers to use if needed.

Spirit Basketball will be held each Saturday beginning Feb. 16 and running through March 9. Games will be held inside the Yukon Community Center, 2200 S Holly Avenue, beginning at 10 a.m. Cost is $10 for the league, which will be tailored to each individual’s abilities.

Both leagues are wheelchair friendly and all people with disabilities are encouraged to participate. The leagues also use coaches, family members, and volunteers as Buddies to assist the players and become their friends.
