Special Olympics softball continues through Sunday in Edmond, Oklahoma City

Athletes from 16 states and three countries are playing in the North American Softball Tournament.

— A softball tournament for Special Olympic athletes from 16 states and three countries continues through Sunday at Bickham Softball Complex in Edmond and at the Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City.

The 2012 Special Olympics North America Softball Invitational Tournament started Friday with games and an opening ceremony.

More than 400 athletes from Canada, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and the United States are gathered for the tournament. Athletes are learning about teamwork, physical fitness and strategic thinking — benefits and skills that people with intellectual disabilities can use to become active, contributing members of their communities.

The hall of fame complex is at 2801 NE 50. Bickham Softball Complex in Edmond is at 1409 E Danforth Road.
