A Spencer woman was charged Tuesday with child neglect, accused of leaving a 5-year-old boy in her vehicle for four hours while she went to a doctor’s appointment in October. Tammy Terell Harding, a former day-care operator, told police she forgot the boy was there.

"Accidents happen,” she said, according to court papers. "I’m only human.”

Harding, 38, was arrested on outstanding Oklahoma City warrants after University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center police identified her as the owner of a vehicle with an unattended child in the back seat, officer Carlos A. Pena wrote in an affidavit.

Harding said she has run a home-based day care for the past nine years.

Harding surrendered her day care license a day after her arrest, state Department of Human Services spokesman George Johnson said.
