— An early childhood teacher assistant was jailed after her two adopted children were locked out of their home during the day for several days, Spencer police report.

Karen Bradford, 47, was arrested Monday on complaints of enabling child neglect and abandonment of child under 15. Her son, Aaron Bradford, 28, was arrested on complaints of child endangerment, according to the arrest report.

An anonymous caller told police two girls, 11 and 13, had been locked outside their home in the mornings and remained outside until the owner of the home went to bed, according to the report.

An officer and the police chief went to the residence, 5480 Sunset Terrace, and saw the girls sitting on the front porch, reading books. The 13-year-old girl told police Aaron Bradford gave them a bag of snacks and jug of water then locked them out of the house, according to the report.

The girls told police their brother doesn't trust them. “It's OK though. He does it all the time,” one girl said. “I can usually get in the house by crawling in my window.”

Police noticed the girls had bug bites on their legs and were dirty. They said the house did not have running water, according to the report.
