Every year, ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit hands out preseason awards called Herbie Awards. This year, he's picking OU to win the Big 12 ... and make the College Football Playoff.

Herbstreit has Ohio State, LSU, OU and Arizona State in his final four for the second go-round of the College Football Playoff, with Ohio State repeating as national champions. Herbstreit also had a number of OU and Oklahoma State players nominated for his annual awards.

Below are some of the players with OU or Oklahoma State ties who were nominated for a Herbie:

Ryan Simmons, LB, Oklahoma State ("The Enforcer" award)
Samaje Perine, RB, Oklahoma ("Ultimate Game-Changer")
Sterling Shepard, WR, Oklahoma ("Ultimate Herbie")
Mason Rudolph, QB, Oklahoma State ("Breakout Star")

(Side note: Herbstreit also picked LSU to beat Tennessee in the SEC championship game. OU player Tennessee on Sept. 12 in Knoxville).

The Herbies Preseason Special will air tonight at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.

Former NBA guard Randy Livingston, a New Orleans native, didn't know who to reach out to 10 years ago during Hurricane Katrina.

When Livingston had no one else to help his mother, Ada, he called then-San Antonio Spurs assistant general manager Sam Presti. It was Presti, who is now the general manager of the Oklahoma City Thunder, who was able to arrange for Ada Livingston to stay at a hotel the Spurs normally used for "draft picks and friends of the program," according to Yahoo! Sports NBA reporter Marc Spears.
